Blinded by the Light No More

Blinds, a working toilet, kitchen sink and a finished floor! What more could I have asked for in just one week? Too bad neither Alec's lottery ticket or my $5 sweeps ticket on the Melbourne Cup brought any joy, but never mind….

The floor is gorgeous and really does clean up well!

It is very light in colour and in keeping with how we want the house to have lots of light. Our carpets work beautifully with it.

And the elephants love their new view!

The plumber installed our vintage toilet in the little WC next to the laundry. It needs some serious cleaning and a new seat, but I am quite pleased with it.

The kitchen sink in working, but unfortunately there is a leak in the waste pipe…. blah ….

But the telescoping faucet is very cool! We ordered two from Blanco in Germany to be shipped to Caroline in Bridgenorth, then she sent them on to us. Great for when the sink is directly underneath a window. Unfortunately the second one, destined for the laundry, was missing the filters so now we need to figure out how to get replacements. Blanco in Australia most unhelpful.

Emilio from Wynstan was scheduled to come earlier in the week to install our blinds, but he hurt himself so came today instead. Definitely worth waiting for. They are gorgeous.

The Taiwanese raincoat has a home on the bedroom wall.
Unpacking will continue for the foreseeable future and as everyone knows, can be a real drag. But it is an opportunity to reconnect with special memories as you sift and sort. I came across a charcoal sketch of Chip and Tryson John, his friend from Poly Prep, that we had done in Central Park in October 1998. Tryson spent many happy weekends with us, including our drive to Pennsylvania to pick up Hermes as a puppy. My recollection is that it was about 3 hours each way. Hermes spent the ride home being showered in love by those two boys.
We took Tryson with us to see the American Boychoir when they came to Manhattan. The choir director invited anyone interested in auditioning to come backstage after the performance. Tryson was very eager to try out, so Alec took Chip home and I stayed behind with Tryson. He was accepted and transferred to the American Boychoir School the same year we moved to Palm Springs in the fall of 2001, and now has a successful career in the music business.
Tomorrow work outside begins with Rob Moxham and his digger arriving, along with Luke from Backyard Permaculture and 2 labourers. I am staying home to supervise….
