Getting to Dangar

When you come to visit us, you will head for the little town of Brooklyn, NSW. We think this is hilarious having lived in Brooklyn, NY. Funny as it would have been to have called 2 Brooklyns home, this one did not appeal to us as a place to live. It is, however, fine as a launching spot for Dangar Island.

If you arrive by train, you will get off at the station called Hawkesbury River. The next stop will display in the carriage.

You will go through 3 tunnels after leaving Cowan, then the Hawkesbury will be there in all it’s glory.

One more short tunnel and you are nearly there.

When you get off the train, be prepared for lots of stairs. This is not an “accessible” station.

The good news is that once you are up, over the tracks and down to the street, you are just a few steps from the ferry wharf.

If you come by car, you can either exit at Cowan and continue on the Old Pacific Highway (on weekends, watch for motorcycles and cyclists) or take the Brooklyn exit off the freeway, which requires you to double back a bit.

Once you get to the Angler’s Rest pub, follow the road down to your left and start looking for parking

If you are lucky, you will find a spot in the first parking area near the path to the wharf, which is not time restricted. If you have luggage that you don’t want to carry, you can drive to the wharf to drop things or people off, but you will have to reverse back out.

If you need more than 4 hours, continue past the marina and look for something in the end lot near the playground. If you are really unlucky, you will have to drive up the hill and park above town.

The existing public wharf is about to undergo renovations… We are anxious to see the new look, but know we are in for a few inconvenient weeks of commuting.

On the early morning weekday ferries, many commuters are still getting ready for their day. It is a very relaxed group!

People do all sorts of interesting things while waiting for the train to arrive.

This was a couple of days before Open Mic night at the Dangar Island Bowling Club, so Judy was practicing….

One more little insight into our commuting group is that despite warnings of an unsafe wharf, some people tie up their boat at the station…

So now you know exactly how to find us, and we look forward to giving you the tour once you get here!  And if you have to wait for the ferry, head to JJ’s (opposite the stations) for some fish and chips! (or in my case, just chips…)
